Jill Walker told me that on Friday evening there was an incredible thunder and lightening storm and torrential rain. The sculpture could easily have been destroyed before completion. Eelin-Ok weathered the storm, though, and if you look over his shoulder, you can see a rainbow. Scroll down to the previous 2 posts for more pictures of the sculpture, etc. The story it was based on, "The Annals of Eelin-OK" can be found online at: http://www.speclit.org/Awards/SLFFountainAward/stories/TheAnnalsOfEelin-Ok.html
Or you can listen to a podcast of it, read by Rajan Khanna @ Podcastle http://podcastle.org/2009/03/25/podcastle-45-the-annals-of-eelin-ok/
The story originally appeared in The Faery Reel from Viking, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling.

It looks like he paid attention the character's description well! Great shot with the rainbow... like a little redemption theme. Great story too. Powerfully effecting in so few words, its earnestness wound tight.
David: Sean did stick close to the character description -- homely handsom, stocky, with big leg muscles and the improvised axe. Thanks for reading it.
Jeff~ The pics of Eelin-Ok and his oceanside abode look terrific. I remember when Madame Cesaria and I happened to be in Virginia Beach (home of Raven restaurant) during a sand carving festival. I was amazed by what those folks could do. The one outside our hotel room was a gigantic Poseidon surrounded by mermaids. Didn't spot any Twilmishes though...
Mike: I'm trying to get Derek to go see the Ensor show at MOMA with me. Thought perhaps you might be interested. | |
